Salem-Keizer Public Schools, Oregon School District 24J, will hold a School Board election for three seats (Zones 2, 4, and 6) on May 16, 2023. Voters can select one candidate from each district, meaning voters will cast their ballot for three total school board candidates – one from each zone.

ZONE 2 CANDIDATES

Troutt stated that it’s “time to stop pushing political agendas of any kind in our classrooms and stick to the basics: math, writing, reading, and science.”

 

Troutt wants to restore School Resource Officers to “ensure all students, teachers, and families feel safe.”

 

Troutt believes “Parents need to be informed about their kids’ school lives—from curriculum choices to whether their kids are struggling emotionally or in their studies.”

Richardson wants to increase diversity within the school district staff.

 

Richardson has been the Director of Student Equity, Access and Advancement at Salem-Keizer Public Schools.

 

Richardson stated that “white” educators “don’t understand the need and why students behave or why they bring their cultural characteristics to the classroom.”

Chandragiri wants to restore School Resource Officers to schools.


Chandragiri says his top priorities are “authentic family engagement, ensuring safety, and high-quality learning.”

Hudson says we must bring back Safety Resource Officers “to begin to restore a sense of safety.”

 

Hudson believes the district should be “re-opening our school board meetings completely to the public” and that “all school curriculum should be available online for parental review.”

Scruggs has been endorsed by the Marion County Democrats and Progressive Salem.

 

Scruggs has voiced support for policies that would make it more difficult for parents to have a say in their children’s education.
